Artist Statement

My personal aesthetic leans towards abstracted forms, line, pattern, and flat color. I am a doodler, so I love working with line. Lettering is an old flame with a new twist as I’ve been learning to letter digitally. Combining line art, doodles, lettering, and color brings me joy. I also love to challenge myself to learn new techniques (like sketching – in ink!) and feel it has helped me grow as an artist.

Acrylic paint is my traditional medium of choice, but I have come to love drawing digitally. My favorite digital tools are my big honkin’ iPad Pro 12.9” ( I LOVE this thing!), my Apple Pencil, and the Procreate app. But really, any day I get paint on my hands or create something with joy is a good day for me. In the late afternoon when my classroom is quiet, you’ll usually find me unwinding through drawing. That Zen flow is my way to finish off the day and refresh my creative energy (as well as create awesome art lessons for my students). If you ask them, they’ll tell you I’m a better person to be around when I get to make art daily. I absolutely love it and I hope that translates into my work.
